RaRa's Angels

Sherryl had a brief conversation with Nancy on Friday during her routine round of Zometa.  Her next appointment is scheduled for this Friday; she anticipates learning the latest tumor marker at that time.  Today, she went to her standing physical therapy appointment, which she always appreciates. 

Sherryl is still working on a scrapbook she'll present to Nadine in honor of her 10 years at Day Care.  As she leafs through photographs of children they have cared for over the past 10 years, she is enjoying many, many memories of the children, their siblings, and their parents.  She knows how very much "Dinie" will appreciate the scrapbook, too, once it is completed.  

On Sunday, Sherryl joined Janice on a trip to San Francisco to greet a team of friends as they crossed the finish line at the Susan G Komen for the Cure 60-mile walk.  The event reminded Sherryl of Pink in the Park as well as the closing ceremony at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, two special events that took place last year. 

Sunday's event also reminded RaRa of her angels.  She has many of them.

... to everyone who made PINK IN THE PARK such a huge success! Enough money was raised Saturday to pay one full-time person to work at daycare for 8 weeks.  This financial resource provides significant support to day-to-day operations at day care.   

Clark Street Foundation (CSF), the sponsor of this event, was formed for the purpose of providing financial assistance to Sherryl Morris Day Care while Sherryl undergoes cancer treatments, surgery, and related recovery.  She will be unable to work full time over the next few months, and won't be at work at all in the weeks following impending surgery.  Appropriate staffing at day care is critical to licensing requirements and is critical to ensure the level of love and caring Sherryl provides to the children is maintained. 

Words cannot express the gratitude we have for the phenomenal moms who planned and carried through this event.  Their endless creativity, tireless attention to detail, and generous donations ("all things pink" and beyond!) are truly remarkable.  Thank you, too, to the dads who helped with the logistics of this event -- from bullhorn announcements to moving tables to and from the park, your efforts and support are truly appreciated.       

And wasn't it great to have Sherryl arrive at the event?!  She commented later that evening that a few people began to say to her, "Look around you.  This is what you have created."  She said she stopped them as the concept was too emotionally overwhelming to fathom.  While most who attended the event know Sherryl through day care, one good friend with whom Richard and Sherryl spend time at Trinity each summer drove down from Oregon for the day just to attend PINK IN THE PARK.   

While Sherryl was humbled by the PINK IN THE PARK event, as we all know, that so many people care about her is indicative of the impact and influence she has on everyone she meets.  Thank you all for showing how much you treasure our sister and her day care.  We are forever indebted to your generosity and kindness.

Sherryl has two appointments this week.  On Monday, she sees her radiology oncologist and on Tuesday she sees her surgeon.  Further updates will be added as we learn more from her doctors.

Big news!!!  RaRa spent a few hours at daycare today!  What a wonderful surprise to the children. 

And even though her activity is limited, RaRa was thrilled to give Emily her bottle and read books to the older kids - of course, after many hugs were shared!  Deenie says she is not sure whose smiles were bigger; the kids or RaRa's. 

When asked how it felt to be back at daycare, RaRa replied, "It was wonderful.  The best medicine in town."

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sherryl has nearly completed her second series of radiation treatment (to the pubic bone); her last appointment is this Wednesday. 

Sherryl is experiencing less pain as a result of radiation, which is a good sign.  Her next appointment with the Oncologist is Tuesday, March 27. 

Following one of her treatments last week, and for the first time since beginning radiation, Sherryl
challenged herself and the technicians to see if she could get off the radiation table by herself. 

She was successful, which brought tears of joy to Sherryl's eyes when she shared the story with her family that evening.

Sherryl's spirits continue to be high and she's still getting plenty of rest.  She is overwhelmed by the wishes and love she is receiving from family and friends.

Her greatest priority right now is finding a way to thank each of you for all you are doing for her. We offered to include a message on this website -- something in her own words, not ours -- but that's not personal enough for our sister; she wants to thank each and every one of you individually.

Please know how much your gestures, thoughts, prayers, and messages are appreciated. Sherryl is looking forward to new emails and discussion board comments!
