Today marks the 3rd birthday of Sherryl's great-niece, Haley, so we gathered Saturday night to celebrate our youngest family member's special day. While the hearth crackled with one of winter's last fires, pizzas, mangoes, presents, and cake decorating warmed our hearts as smiles and laughter were exchanged by all.
When we celebrated Austin's birthday in December, we each decorated a railway train cakelet in colors that complimented the season. Our individual masterpieces were assembled into a single Christmas-themed locomotive cuing us to sing "Happy Birthday" to the birthday boy. For Haley's party, the theme was spring. Small bouquets of white daisies and tiny pink carnations invited the season of new beginnings to join us in the dining room where we repeated December's activity, this time with "backyard bugs." Butterflies, lady bugs, dragonflies, and bumble bees whimsically came to life thanks to the talents of each decorator and a variety of pastel frostings and candies. Haley chose a lady bug to decorate, and RaRa chose her favorite, a dragonfly.
Here is a photo of RaRa with the birthday girl and her big brother, Austin (who lost two teeth last week), followed by a photo of the dragonfly cakelet RaRa decorated so beautifully.
Happy, Happy Birthday ~ Sweet Haley Jayne.
