Sherryl met with Nancy this morning. It was a routine appointment; she was expecting to learn the latest tumor marker and she was due for another dose of Zometa. The tumor marker was not yet available, so she'll call Nancy on Monday.
Sherryl told Nancy she was experiencing a small ache in her lower back. Nancy advised Sherryl to skip taking Xeloda this weekend and they'll determine next steps during their conversation on Monday. It has been 3 months since the last PET scan, so another one may be ordered depending on the tumor marker and whether or not the ache in her back continues.
The edema in Sherryl's left arm is still present, but it is expected to be minimized by wearing a sleeve that will apply pressure to the swollen area and by physical therapy.
Following Sherryl's conversation with Nancy, she went to the "chemo room" for Zometa. Two nurses, 5 attempts to find a vein, one dose of Zometa, and 45 minutes later, with mocha in hand, she headed to Bed, Bath and Beyond with Arleen to do some light shopping. Then she returned to the Marin Cancer Institute at 1:00 PM for her physical therapy appointment.
Sherryl's spirits continue to be high. She loves spending the week at day care, and she loves spending evenings and weekends with family and good friends.
We'll let you know the outcome of Sherryl's follow-up conversation with Nancy as soon as possible!
